Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe is the co-Founder of the Motsepe Foundation and the Founder of Africa Fashion International (AFI) and is the Chancellor Elect of the University of Cape Town (term commencing 2020). She is a businesswoman and philanthropist who started her career in medicine at Wits University and worked in various public hospitals in South Africa as well as the Medical College of Virginia in the USA. Together with her husband, Dr Patrice Motsepe, she founded the Motsepe Foundation in 1999, and in 2013 they became the first couple from Africa to join the Giving Pledge.
Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe founded one of the first Women’s Clinics in Johannesburg and established the Motsepe Foundation WOMEN, a Women’s unit for the socio economic development of women and girls as equal participants with men and boys in the economic growth and development of society. In addition to development work in South Africa and the African Continent, the Foundation has international partnerships with the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, Harvard Kennedy School, the Milken Institute and various other philanthropic organisations. She has also authored a resource booklet for Women in SA – The Little black book for women and produced the Work Gender Responsive Budgeting Initiative SA.
Dr Moloi-Motsepe established African Fashion International (AFI) in 2007. AFI’s mission is to aggregate the fragmented Fashion and Clothing industry on the African Continent and to make it commercially viable and sustainable. Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe holds an MBBch and Dch from Wits University and a diploma in Women’s Health from Stellenbosch University.
