Jane Raphaely is Chairperson of Associated Magazines and Editor-in-Chief of ‘O, the Oprah Magazine’.

Jane founded ‘Fair Lady’ magazine in 1965 for Nasionale Pers and started Jane Raphaely and Associates with them to launch ‘Cosmopolitan’ in 1984. Associated Magazines was formed in 1988 publishing ‘Femina’, ‘House and Leisure’, ‘Brides and Homes’ and ‘Baby and Me’.

Oprah Winfrey selected Associated Magazines as the only company to publish an international edition of ‘O’ magazine in 2002. ‘Marie Claire’ joined the fold in 2003 and today Associated Magazines is one of the largest privately owned publishing houses in South Africa, reaching approximately 1.7 million readers through its award-winning magazine brands.

Jane’s awards include Businesswoman of the Year, Media Innovator of the Year and Star Woman of our Time.

She has established a shelter for battered women in Langa and was instrumental in the making of the Charlize Theron ‘Real Men Don’t Rape’ TV campaign, the Men’s March and Women Demand Dignity. Other major media awards she has received include the Sasol Women in the Media Award (2002), the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award (2008), the ADMag Lifetime Achievement Award (2008) and the Naspers Order of Tafelberg Award (2008).
