Sue has primary accountability for managing the risk and control enviroment across Operations and Technology. This entails ensuring that the 3 lines of defence are fit for purpose and the governance is in place. It also includes oversight of the delivery of the African Road to Satisfactory, essential for improving control enviroment and reducing residual risk. She is a member of the African COO ExCo and Africa Risk ExCo. Prior to this role Sue was responsible for all payment operations across Africa, sanctions payment screening and the change management portfolio. As part of this role Sue represents Barclays Africa at the Group Governance Boards for Payments Process and Transactional Operations Key Risk and application owner for the critical payments infratsructure. She is part of the CIBW Extended Leadership Team.
Sue was part of the creation of the Group Centre Women’s Network during her time in London and was sponsored in 2011 as the Barclays representative on the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation, the programme entitled ‘Women Leading Global Change’. She is active in the developing of female talent across Africa and leads learning and development interventions. Sue has had a wide variety of roles across the Barclays Group. These roles have included managing large scale operational teams, creating the strategy for Third Party Suppliers and held the role of Chief Operating Officer for Barclaycard Technology. She specialises in strategy planning, process re-engineering, portfolio management, relationship management, operational management and organisational design.
She lives in Johannesburg is married to Jon and has 3 children (Lucie, Harriet and Mathilda, 5 horses and 3 dogs.
