Nana Magomola is Chairperson of Bathabile Group (Pty) Ltd, a Medical Aid Administration and Technology Company and Deputy-Executive Chair of Thamaga Investment Holdings Ltd. She is a former Director General of the North West Provincial Government.
Nana studied and worked in the USA for over six years. She holds a BSc degree from City University of New York, New York, USA and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from University of Witwatersrand. Johannesburg SA. Nana has also completed several Postgraduate Executive Development Programmes including the Singapore/Commonwealth Programme for Top Managers, Singapore, and the Executive Development Programme from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
Nana is a lawyer and a leading businesswoman with more than 30 years experience in a wide range of corporate and legal fields. Earlier in her career, she was executive at Johnson & Johnson and later at Merck, both of which were subsidiaries of America’s largest pharmaceutical companies. She retired as a senior executive at Eskom, South Africa’s largest power utility company.
During her tenure at Eskom, Nana was seconded to the Ministry of Public Enterprises to establish a Skills Audit & Development Unit. The unit’s work was to identify capacity constraints amongst black executives and to implement transformation within State Owned Enterprises. Amongst other achievements, Magomola created links with International Institutions including Harvard University, USA; Warwick University, UK and National University of Singapore. Her relationship with Singapore University saw her establish a programme which arranged for at least hundred executives from State Owned Enterprises to attend Executive Development Programme at that institution.
Nana has served as Chairperson of several companies such as MX Health (Pty) Ltd, New Integrated Credit Solutions (Pty) Ltd and the Limpopo Tourism and Parks Board. She has also served as Director of national and international companies including Transnet Ltd, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Reebok (SA) (Pty) Ltd, and St Paul Insurance Company.
Nana is a Trustee of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and Deputy Chair of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital as well as Member of Board of Governors: Rhodes University.
She is a co-Founder and life member the Business Women’s Association (BWA). This organisation, renowned for its Annual Business Woman of The Year Awards, has branches all over South Africa. She is also a co-Founder of the International Women’s Forum of South Africa and was a Director for four years. Nana also conceptualised and implemented the South African Leadership Programme. Sixty-five Fellows graduated from the programme under her leadership as Chair. To date the Leadership Programme has more than one hundred graduates.
Nana served as a Director of the international Leadership Foundation Board for four years and Global Director of International Women Forum for two years. She has interviewed and presented candidates for the Leadership Foundation Programme for the past six years and has participated a speaker at several Leadership Orientation and Induction programmes.
Nana continues to motivate and mentor others by way of addresses at conferences in South Africa and abroad. She has been profiled in several magazines and newspapers.
