Prof Carolina Koornhof currently heads up three key portfolios at the University of Pretoria (UP). She joined UP in 1995 as a Professor in Accounting and was appointed as the Head of the Department of Accounting in 2001 before taking over as the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences in 2003 and as a member of the UP Executive in 2011.
As an academic, Prof Koornhof specialises in Accounting and has lectured at the University of Cape Town, the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Pretoria. She has published in refereed academic journals and professional journals, presented papers at national and international conferences and is the co-author of several accounting textbooks.
She is a qualified South African Chartered Accountant CA (SA), a British Certified Accountant (FCCA) and a Registered Auditor (RA). She has also served on the Boards and Audit Committees of several business and public entities.
In 2014, she received a Country Lifetime Achiever Award at Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government Awards ceremony for her contribution to Higher Education, and a Honorary Golden Key award in 2018, in recognition of her contribution to Education.
Prof Koornhof will soon be retiring from the University of Pretoria (UP) after almost 30 years of service.
