Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe is a businesswoman, philanthropist, and Chancellor of the University of Cape Town.
She founded the Motsepe Foundation in 1998 with her husband, Patrice Motsepe. The Motsepe Foundation is one of the largest philanthropic organisations on the African continent with global partners including Harvard University, Earthshot Prize, Global Citizen, and the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. The initiatives of the Motsepe Foundation are associated with 12 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, facilitating impact in education, community development, sports, and social cohesion.
In 2007, Dr Moloi-Motsepe established African Fashion International (AFI), an African luxury company that has expanded the creative, cultural and social economy on the African continent. In 2017, she was the recipient of the Fashion 4 Development Franca Sozzani Award for her efforts promoting African designers and artisans, as well as empowering disadvantaged women. She has also been recognised by Credit Suisse as a Woman of Impact, and by the Business of Fashion for her role catalysing inclusion and the growth of African voices in the fashion industry.
Since 2020, she has served as Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. As a thought and cultural leader, her insights on education, social entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, gender equality, and climate change have been sought after at platforms including the World Economic Forum and the Conference of the Parties (COP).
