Mojankunyane Gumbi

Founder of MG Advisory Services, Advocate Mojanku Gumbi is a trusted advisor on African business and governance. She serves as the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Addressing Racism in the Workplace (since 2023), providing strategic leadership in combating racial discrimination globally.

A leading figure in peace and governance, she has facilitated political settlements, electoral reforms, and constitution drafting in Lesotho, DRC, Zimbabwe, and beyond. As Special Advisor to former President Thabo Mbeki, she played a key role in multilateral negotiations at the WTO, the UN Conference on Financing for Development, and the World Conference on Women. She also served as South Africa’s G8 Presidential Sherpa (2005–2008) and has been a strong advocate for fair global taxation benefiting developing nations.

In 2021, she was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate the attempted insurrection in South Africa and chaired a panel on Government Printing Works irregularities. She also led the South African Tourism Board (2021–2022), guiding the sector through post-COVID recovery.

The first female Chancellor of the University of Venda (since 2022), she is a member of the Chancellor’s Forum, chaired by Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe. A longtime advocate for education, she has served as Ombud at UJ and on councils for UL and Wits Technikon.

Recognized for her contributions, Advocate Gumbi was named an IWFSA Hall of Femme Honouree (2023). In August 2024, she highlighted ongoing gender challenges, emphasizing that many women still “exist on the margins of society.”She continues to serve on multiple JSE-listed company boards and remains actively involved in philanthropic and governance initiatives.
