Wendy is currently the Chairman of Shoprite, a position that Wendy has held since November 2020.
Wendy was previously the Chairman of Absa Group, Absa Bank and Absa Financial Services. She was previously an Executive Director of Rand Merchant Bank Holdings and thereafter Chief Executive of FirstRand Retail, which included First National Bank, WesBank, Outsurance and Firstlink, and prior to that she was an international partner at Andersen Consulting, now Accenture.
Her former Non-Executive Directorships include those at Barclays PLC and Barclays Bank PLC, Nedbank, Anglo American Platinum, Development Bank of Southern Africa, Dimension Data PLC, Alexander Forbes, Aveng (Deputy Chairman), Lafarge Industries SA (Chairman), Eskom, Momentum Group, Discovery Holdings, Telkom SA and the South African Financial Markets Advisory Board.
Wendy was involved in facilitating strong partnerships between business and government since 1994 and as a result became the founding Chairman of Business Against Crime. She was also a member of the President’s Advisory Council on Black Economic Empowerment from 2011 to 2014, and in another government partnership, the Deputy Chair at the establishment of the GBVF Response fund in January 2021, until 2024.
Wendy is also a founding director of Peotona Group Holdings, a women’s investment and development group and currently holds directorships in the following Non-Profit Organisations: Peotona Foundation NPC and Afrika Tikkun Foundation NPC.
