Thandi holds a B Juris degree from Fort Hare University, B Proc & LLB degrees from UNISA and LLM from Wits University.

Thandi is presently an admitted advocate, a social entrepreneur, a businesswoman and a non-executive director of listed and unlisted companies. She is a co-founder together with Cheryl Carolus, Wendy Lucas-Bull and the late Dolly Mokgatle of Peotona Group Holdings, a woman owned investment company established in 2005. In addition to chairing the board of bpSA, she is the chairman of JSE listed Implats,
non-executive director of Toyota SA, the Industrial Development Corporation and investee companies of Peotona Group Holdings. She is actively involved in the notfor-profit sector, in the field of Education, Human Rights and SMME, chairing the boards of Zenex Foundation and the Legal Resources Centre and a Trustee of the South African Future Trust.

Thandi’s career includes practising law in human rights, employment and commercial law, mediation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in these fields. She has held executive leadership positions at the Legal Resources Centre, Independent Mediation Services of South Africa, the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation & Arbitration and Routledge Modise Attorneys. She has previously served on numerous boards in the public and private sector notably the South African Reserve Bank, Johannesburg Roads Agency, Reunert Ltd, Ceramic Industries Ltd and the South African National AIDS Council.

Thandi is married with 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. She enjoys a healthy lifestyle, that includes sport, travelling and reading. She continues to advocate for human rights and socio-economic rights of Black people, particularly women.
